unable to change default for .pdf extension

I have been running adobe reader 6 and have just downloaded and installed adobe reader 7 ( I know there is a compatibility problem) and have found that the default for .pdf extension is still adobe reader 6 it appears that all the other extensions (.edn,.etd,.fdf,.pdx,.rmf,.xdp,.xfdf) have changed to adobe reader 7. I cannot change .pdf to adobe reader 7, have gone in via default programs (associate a file type or protocol with a program).
Can anybody help
