Can't start Vista other than with Paragon Rescue Kit ???

In an unsuccessful attempt to run Tiger Woods Pga Tour 07, I partitioned my hard drive and tried to load Windows XP Pro onto the new partition...the game has run OK on my previous computer on XP...however,XP Pro would not install,"several required files are missing", or words to that effect. I then used Disc Management to change the new partition to "unallocated".
If I now try to start the computer it shows an XP opening page then the message
"Microsoft could not start because of a computer disc hardware configuration problem.Could not read from the selected boot disc; check boot path and disc hardware.Check the Windows documentation about hardware disc configuration and your hardware refence manualsfor additional information"
Luckily, I have a Paragon Rescue Kit 9 disc, and can start the computer using this, but it's a pain in the butt going thro' the required steps.
Any help in resolving this problem would be much appreciated, but treat me gently please, did someone mention "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing"

have a look in youre system config and see if paragon hasnt overridden microsoft boot config

Thanks for your input; under the "boot" tab in Systems Configuration the only entry is: Microsoft Windows Vista Current OS; default OS.
I take that to mean that Paragon has not overridden ???

doesnt sound like it, what make is your pc?also maybe you can check your paragon settings,a lot of programs make themselves default within there own settings which is a pain

Hullo again, my computer is an AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual core processor 6000+ ...... should I consider formatting the hard drive and reinstalling Vista ???? I have saved everything on the HD to an external HD before before I started the whole process.

Hi Gazzoid, just a note to thank you again for your interest and to let you know I have resolved the problem !!! FYI I booted from the original Vista CD and then used the "Startup Repair" section to get to the stage where I could boot without using any discs, altho' the first page after startup asked me to choose between Vista OS and my back up external harddrive ... even tho' it was not switched on !! Then I ran "Easy BCD" to get rid of the external HD option, AOK now !! Thanks again.

glad you got it fixed.your external drive would of still been in your system config from previous until you wiped it a fresh,glad it works
