Shadow Copy Timeout
I am having a problem using the Windows backup and restore utility. I get an error indicating that the creation of a shadow copy timed out. Error code 0x81000101.

I tried to create a restore point by going to Control Panel -> System and Maintenance -> System -> System Protection and then clearing the check-mark next to System disk and then set it back on. I then tried to restart but I got a blue screen indicating a DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE Stop:0x0000009F.

Manually powered off and back on. Windows did not come up. Powered off then back on then got a Start-up Repair screen. After it attempted to repair errors, it said that “Windows cannot repair this computer automatically”. Selected Shutdown but PC did not shutdown – I had to manually power off then back on. It then came back on okay.

I think that I have some hardware going bad, but am hoping that it just a driver or configuration problem. Thanks for any help... Jack

Re: Shadow Copy Timeout
Did you resolve the issue? If so, how?

I cannot use restore point at all. It says the "shadow copy provider had an unexpected error while trying to process specific operation

I posted today under geekchic about the shadow copy missing, so far no response, no restore point either. Worried!

Sorry that I can't tell you how to fix the problem. I was worried to that I either had a virus or that my hard drive was going bad. Apparently, neither was the case. Good luck...

Re: Shadow Copy Timeout
Thanks gatorjack, I can't afford someone else to fix it. I'll get it, already tried one method by going into the services and setting "automatic" to the VSS but it didn't work. I'll keep researching til I find it and just for fun I'll let you know!
Not concerned that its a bad hard drive or virus, but that if there is a power surge or something I wouldn't be able to restore my files back.
Thanks!
