Ntvdm cpu error during app installation
When trying to install a blogging client (Semagic, which should run under Vista), I keep getting "The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction." errors. After much swearing and googling, I'm still no better off. UAC is turned off, I'm attempting to run the app as admin, but to no avail.
Any tips? I know there's an article in the MS KB that often gets mentioned, but I just cannot be arsed to go through and rename every.sodding.file they list, plus I suspect it won't fix this particular problem. SFC is similarly unhelpful. Also, this is a relatively 'fresh' system (new computer, few apps installed, few Win updates installed (critical ones yes, most optional ones skipped)), should that be relevant.
