office 2010 kills remote
Is this a common problem? (Let hope so.. hate leading edge stuff)
Remote to my office box was working fine until Office 2010 (all updates) was installed. OS is Vista - all updates and sp's.
Corporate IT can't figure it out. We're about ready to nuke the 2010 install. Any general ideas? vpn works, browsers work, ping anywhere works...
Update Sunday ===============================================
There's a suggestion in many posts that after installing Office2010 a manual hosts file entry is required. Ok, I can do that BUT...
I opened up the file (notepad as admin) C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts. Having opened a ton of these before (but none in Vista) I expected to see just regular text; ip and name pairs. But the head of the file contains what looks like binary data. Is this right? Is updating this file in Vista require something other than a plain text edit.
