vista install
hi, ive been having troubles with my hard drive and vista.. it seems. i have a western digital sata caviar drive and when i try and install vista i get stuck on 0%. i usually get one of 3 messages, usually consistent for a while, but the one i keep getting now is "windows setup could not reinitialize the deployment engine" i remember reading a post of a Mike M, but it was never finished. im installing vista and a new computer i am building, and all of my parts are compatible. im not sure if its my hard drive or my vista.. but nothing seems to work.
ive tried deleting the partition, creating a new formated one. formatting the default partition, ive TRIED installing drivers from my MSI drivers and utilities CD, but i dont really know what to install. ive tried install the sata_ide drivers, but that doesnt do anything.i have 1 hard drive, and 1 dvd/rw drive, so im not using raid or anything. helppp
thanks,
kevin

Hi Kevin,

welcome

I have a few suggestions and a few questions...

First of all can you follow the resolution instructions in the following Microsoft Article...You cannot select or format a hard disk partition when you try to install Windows Vista

Can you tell us the make of your motherboard and hard drive?

Thanks
regards

Steve

ty, steve.
well, my motherboard is an msi p6n lga 775. my harddrive is a western digital sata. but, i just installed vista on a spare hard drive i found... its 40 gigs, but it worked. so, would it be smart to RMA my hard drive? im not really sure if i need drivesr or what not, because the 40gb harddrive isnt sata, and my normal 250 one is. but, i tried using drivers and utilities like i said earlier. but if you could find WHAT i need to install if anything, for drivers, thatd be cool. i think i going to RMA it back to newegg, though.

Kevin,

good news

I'd RMA it allright...

Before you get a new one find a compatible vendor from Windows Quality Online Services: Windows Vista Hardware Compatibility List

regards

Steve
