First, I'm sorry to reply to such an old thread but I have a solution in 2013 that I want other Lexmark owners to know about. After all, the Z25 is an efficient, sturdy workhorse of a printer. My need involved adding this as an additional printer to my elderly parents Vista computer so that Dad (with arthritis in his hands) could use a Word template I created for personal check printing. Current market all-in-one printers are fancy but they can't feed small paper checks like an old reliable Z25. I pulled a frustrating all-nighter (and more!) searching for a solution on compatible drivers and, as of the date I post this (July 30, 2013) I recommend the following steps:
(1) Go to official Lexmark site:
Universal Print Driver - Download | Lexmark United States
(2) Click Download button to download the UNIVERSAL PRINT DRIVER
(3) If package was not set to auto-run upon download, then manually locate and run:
(4) Answer the straightforward set-up questions – I decided to checkmark only the box for "Drivers"
; an excellent on-screen Help guide is available but I doubt you'll require it.
The procedure set my Lexmark Z25 printer up on: "USB001 Virtual printer port for USB"
It was a joy to hear those belts & rollers finally churn to life for cartridge alignment, test page, and likely many more years of quality use! I hope this helps others.
P.S. I'm not an expert on the ink cartridge market, but judging by how long the Z25 has lasted me thus far, it may be worth storing a few empty printer cartridges away for future re-filling... Doomsday Printer Preppers! ... if you catch my drift. ;-)
