Vista operating system recognized as XP operating system

I attempted to do an on-line scan from Windows Live One Care for my Vista operating system & a window popped up saying that it was unable to scan because I needed to use the scan for Windows XP. I have received the same message when I attempted to download a program for my IE8 also telling me that it appeared I only had IE6 on my PC.
I would appreciate any help in this matter as to why this is happening & how I can correct this problem.

I have never done a system recovery but I have done a couple of restores since I purchased this laptop.
