Vista not detecting Network Card
Good evening,
Since installing a new Hdd, I have had no network connection.
For some reason, vista doesn't see my NIC any longer.
I know the onboard NIC is compatible as it was working a few days ago.
The first thing I did was unplug the new HDD, no go.
I formatted the computer, no go.
I tried an old SMC Nic, no go. (not 100% sure this SMC1244 is compatible with Vista)
I've reset BIOS to factory and confirmed "onboard LAN" is enabled.
(even toggled it off/on once)
I did have trouble getting the device mangler until I formatted.
Now when I look in it, there are is not a Network adapters section.
I've put the SMC NIC back in, and windows didn't notice it, nor is it listed under "unknown devices". In fact, there is nothing listed in unknown devices.
I tried the other PCI slot, no difference.
It is almost as if the computer doesn't want to go on the Internet any more.
Very strange
