Vista Backup Failure

Had a blocked attack a couple of days ago from one of those Security malware things that tells you how your computer is infected and you need their product badly. Well I denied everything and Norton 360 seemed to hold up well. This seems to be the only problem since. I have run Malwarebytes and Registry Mechanic and I'm still having trouble doing a routine backup. Will restoring to a previous backup help? Here's the error message.

The same error happens now each time Windows Backup runs. The event log
shows the error, and looking back in time, I see that it started on Jan. 9,
2008. Two things happened on this date that may be related:

1. I just happened to do a restore on that date, from the backup drive,
using Windows Backup, of two files. The restore worked just fine and I see
no reason why this would cause the backup to stop working.

Backup and Restore, put simply, just doesn't work on Vista Home Premium.
Many files are not backed up, and dangerously it leads you to believe that the backup was successful! I have just learnt from another forum that it doesn't do .exe and other files!

Home Premium doesn't even do complete backups.

It is not up to the job of trying to be a professional operating system. A basic requirement of an operating system for the past 50 years has been the task of backing up (& restore if ever needed).

Without this it should not even be released to Beta Testing.

It is not "fit for purpose" (a legal consumer phrase in the UK) and you should get your money back from the supplier.
