installed vista but now ie does not work

i am having the darndest time getting iexplorer to work after installing vista. none of my icons for the internet work now, they all come back with the error message that ie has stopped working. what is more confusing, in testing access to the internet through a programs url instead of my icons example i went to norton and clicked on their support url and it works. i can then get to other places in the internet. now, this does not make sense. did vista do something to my desktop icons or is this an unrelated ie problem that coincidentally appeared after installing vista.
