Default view in open file dialogues

Okay, this one is driving me nuts. I prefer the list view in open/save dialogues. I can change the default folder view to list view, but can't find a way to change the default view in dialogues. XP used to "remember" the previous view; Vista doesn't seem to do that. I have to switch to list view every time.
