X64/x86 Install question
Greetings and sorry in advance if I posted in the wrong category, or this has been answered already. I have been googling for the better part of 2 days and haven't found the answer to this (but I migh be asking the question incorrectly).
I am fairly comfortable doing clean installs of most versions of Windows having been around the block a couple times. I however have purchased my first x64 machine (HP Dv7-1232NR) and when I got it, i was lazy and just uninstalled the bloatware that was installed on it (vista x64 Home Premium install) while I broke the machine in.
I'm to the point where through use, something got corrupted and its crashing left and right. I do not want to do a restore, as for a new machine all the extra stuff is making it slow and I kind of feel that its pointless to remove the extra junk HP installed, so I can have to go through the another restore again in a few months.
My question really is this... I have a X64 SP1 disc to do a clean install, but I am confused on the versions that I can select to install. I thought (maybe mistakenly) the X64 DVD had both 32 bit and 64 bit verson on them. When I get to the point where I select which version of windows I want (home basic, home premium, ultimate, etc), I thought I would see both x86 and x64 versions clearly listed to choose from. I don't see that (which is causing my confusion). I only see 1 option listed for Home basic, home premium, ultimate, etc and there is no reference to x64 or x86.
As a note, when I looked at the directory on the disc, in the sources folder, I have a sub folder called 6.0.6000.16386_amd64. I dont have that on a known x86 disc.
So is there only the x64 version on the x64 disc and thats why I only see one listing of each version I could choose from to install?
If someone would set me straight on what I should be seeing, I would appreciate it. I don't want to try installing it to find out that vista installs the 32 bit version, and then have to put the hp bloat image back on while trying to find the right disc.
Thanks again in advance.
