How to undo Vista & XP network

Hi, new to this forum and computer "Dumb"- I set up this newish vista cp to my old XP computer as a network- which never worked at all. Keep getting error messages relating to "networks" when trying to download microsoft updates- Several important updates will not download. How do I undo the network part back to a simple home basic cp. Any info greatly appreciated- Shilo
