Missing a step in Raid setup??
Hi,
I'm not new to computers, or even to Vista, but I am new to RAID, and I seem to be missing a step, somewhere. I have 3 drives. I have Vista Home Premium on a 250GB drive, and two brand new 500GB drives. I want to keep the OS on the original drive and set up the new drives as RAID1.
I've been able to get to the point where the BIOS shows all of them as RAID, and Vista's Drive Manager shows the new drives as SCSI, but Vista only offers me the options of striping (RAID0, I assume) or an extended partition (effectively making it a 1TB partition, I guess). Neither of those is what I want. If I try to update the drivers, Vista tells me I already have the latest and greatest installed.
I have seen mention of pressing F6 during bootup all over the Web, but that hasn't done anything when I've tried it. Maybe my timing is off? I don't know when that's supposed to happen, or if it's universal or specific to certain mobos. I seem to recall it working on older machines, but that was long ago. I never get a prompt like the "Press DEL to enter setup" or the CTRL-F that comes along later, and pressing F6 during startup does nothing.
Anyone know what I did wrong?
Thanks!
