Vista XP NTFS compatibility question
I'm trying to understand what's going on with the NTFS partitions in Vista. I have a new WD 640 GB drive that I formatted in XP and gives no problems with XP, but when I plug it in to Vista, it errors saying the partition is corrupt and unuseable and to run checkdisk on it. I have ignored the message and I was able to use the drive without real problems copying data to it. Then I tried to copy data from it and then it starts to compain about corrput files....if it tells me anything at all. Sometimes when I tell it to copy, absolutley nothing happens, no message, no copying, nothing.
I have the same problem with a USB drive I have. Formatted in XP and when I plug it into Vista, I get the corrupt message, but I can ignore the message and have no problems with the USB drive.
I'm wondering if XP's NTFS formatting is actually compatible with Vista? It's frustrating since I must work with both OS's.
