1TB drive problem
I bought my son an external 1TB USB HD for christmas. We both have fairly new Dell laptops. He has the really small one (The Dell Laptop Mini) and I have an inspiron 1520. I have Vista home basic installed and he has Ubuntu Linux. When he pluged the 1TB drive into his Dell Mini it worked perfectly out of the box--no drivers to install or anything. He had a lot of pictures he wanted to transfer to my computer so he stored them on the 1TB drive and then we pluged it into my Inspiron 1520.
The Inspiron would not recognize the drive. After checking in some settings in Control Panel, he got a message on my computer that indicated it knew some sort of USB device was connected but we should plug it into a USB 2.0 port to make sure it would work properly. I only have USB 2.0 and no 1.0 ports. Whats going on? Why is Vista having a problem with a 1TB drive and Linyx has no problems?
