Disappearing Files

Hello,
I am running a new Dell computer with Vista Home Premium. I have encountered a new problem that I thought might be a Picassa problem but
I am now thinking it might be Vista.
I am having image files disappear. They are literally there one moment and gone the next. I look into a folder and it is empty. I have "show hidden files" checked. They are not deleted. At least they are not in the recycling bin.
I have tried running restore and am getting an error.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
