Is Acronis True Image a Problem with VSS?

I have been struggling to troubleshoot a problem for over a month now involving VSS. The restore points on my Vista Home Premium computer (Dell Inspiron bought in May 2008) disappear when it is restarted.

Today I saw a comment online that suggests that Acronis True Image may interfere with VSS. I installed Acronis True Image 11 two months ago.

My attempt to check this out consisted of inactivating The Acronis True Image using Windows Defender. This did not get rid of the problem. I realize there may be other issues that this inactivation does not address -- such as registry entries.

Another disturbing thing I found today is that apparently, in Vista, right-clicking on a folder should bring up the option to "restore previous versions". This does not exist in my Vista! What I do find is a option to "Search in Backup Archive" which leads to Acronis backups (if they exist). Clearly this is not the same thing.

Does anyone have more specific information that can help me get back the Vista System Restore points proper function?

Here I am replying to my own post -- madness -- Vista madness.

I have finally come to the conclusion that Vista Home Premium has VSS, but has not VSS --meaning there is just enough of it in there to tease someone who looks for restore points, but not enough to actually be useful. It is obvious that Microsoft wants you to upgrade, to Ultimate for ~$150, for example.

Its all about money! So what's new?

It would have been useful & saved me a lot of time if they had come right out and said so when one attempts to do something restore point-wise!

Am I the only one naive enough to have been stung by this?
