WIRELESS CONNECTION PROBLEM. vista netgear wgr614 v4

Hi i am new to this forum and have no knowledge of anything to do with computers......unfortunately. i just bought a new dell inspiron 1525 with vista. i had a netgear wgr 614 v4 for wireless internet connection. it doesnt work.
a friend has told me i need wg602 v3 by netgear. will this work? many thanks in advance for any help
