Why is Vista so slow for me?
Hey all. I signed up here to get some help with my new notebook and Vista Ultimate. So far, it hasn't been a pleasant experience, but i'm pushing on.
Basically, I have a brand new ASUS G1s 2.2Ghz Intel Core2Duo with 2Gb RAM. So, not a slow machine. I have reinstalled Vista from my manufacturer supplied restore DVD and have only Vista up and running. After several reboots (and hours) while Vista installs updates, etc, (to be expected I suppose) my new super fast notebook sits a my desktop screen CONSTANTLY hitting the hard disk. And I mean, the HDD activity light is on SOLID with only the occasional flicker.
Basically my questions are why does it do this? And how can I stop it? Most of the time it is some process called 'TrustedInstaller' which sounds ominous to begin with. But there has also been 'mcbuilder.exe', and of course some other generic processes like 'svchost.exe'.
Seriously, there is nothing on this computer that wasn't on the restore DVD and it runs like a complete pig. Performance is completely crap. For example, I can't watch a youtube video in IE7 because it keeps skipping.
I don't mind fiddling around with services and registry stuff, so if anyone has a 'howto' or website I can get info from about how to speed this thing up, I'd really appreciate it.
TIA
