How to Access mailto: Registry Key
I am actually trying to help a user with Vista, and am handicapped because I am still using XP. The user is unclear how to access the mailto: Registry Key. I have asked her to post the key, as she is unable to "Send Link" using Firefox.

I think her problem may be that this key is either corrupt, or is still using the default setting, which would be Windows Mail. Could someone post that key for me please, I would be eternally grateful!

Hi RamonaJ,

this registry key can be set without going near the Registry.... see Techlicious.tv: How to set the default Email Client in Windows Vista for how to do it,

Let us know how it goes,

regards

Steve

How to Access mailto: Registry Key
Steve,

I'm the one that Ramona was trying to help and she sent me your suggestion. I had done that Default Programs option at least 6 times trying to solve my problem. After extensive searches on the Internet we thought it might be the Vista Registry.

I am using Vista Home Premium and the latest version of Firefox and Thunderbird. Never use IE except for Windows updates.

I can NOT use the File/Send Link button in Firefox. I continue to get a pop-up windows with the Title Bar saying: Windows Internet Explorer

The error message states: Could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed.

Thunderbird seems to function correctly as does Firefox. I did un-install and re-install Firefox but that did nothing.

I tried EVERYTHING that I found posted on the Interent and on any board I could find.

I did find someone who had this issue but she was able to correct hers doing something with GMail and the GoogleToorbar. I use neither.

All I want is the Thunderbird Compose window to come up as before while browsing in FF so I can send a link.

I even called the PC tech support to see if any of their pre-installed software might be the problem.

I read one post that gave instructions about adding something in the registry but they were using XP and the Registrys are different.

Do you have any ideas?
