Anyway, my laptop occasionally changes from normal screen to a stretched display when I close the lid and then open it again. It's like it doesn't refresh itself?

I have tried restarting, shutting down and rebooting and nothing is working. Help please?
I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 with Vistas Basic OS. Thanks in advance.
