msvcr80.dll query
Hi folks,

I've recently started using VC++ 8.0 (+sp1) to build an application previously built using VC++ 7.0. My app now won't run on Vista32. I get a messge saying that msvcr80.dll cannot be found. This might not be a vista issue - as the app also now has a problem on xpsp2 - where I get a runtime library error regarding R6034 saying the app isn't loading tyhe runtime library correctly. Is there some aspect of Vista that exposes a problem in an app built using VC++ 8.0 ?

Please excuse the verbosity - this is my first post.

Thanks,

Brendan

can you download the latest Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package from here Download details: Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)

This should give and let vista see msvcr80.dll

msvcr80.dll query
Hi Steve,

My IT colleagues had actually already done that. The reason was because I was getting a side-by-side error on other apps - and the recommended solution was to download that package.

I should add, that before downloading the package, the xpower app was doing noting. I.e., if I typed "xpower" in a command window, I got no response at all. So I considered the msvcr80.dll an improvement of sorts.

Hi Brendan,

Is msvcr80.dll actually on your system?

If you do have it can you right click on the Command Prompt and select Run As Administrator and the type
Quote:
RegSvr32.exe msvcr80.dll
When the error occurs can you have a look in the Event Viewer and for any Error that shows up around this time can you copy and paste it into this post.

regards

Steve

3 versions of the file
Hi Steve,

I have 3 versions of the file - all in sub-folders of c:\Windows\winsxs.
I don't know what you mean by right-clicking on the command window. Idid open up a command window and right clicked on it -there were no administrator options.

Hi Steve,

I followed all those steps but I am not being allowed open up the resultant cmd window as an administrator. This is seemingly a control put in place by my employer's IT people. (The machine in question is not my own.)
