Hello & Updates Problems
Hi Steve,

I've rerun the validation, OK. Tried updates again, same 80070057 msg. Log is below. Surprisingly, the system tells me the SP1 installation tool KB937287 has been installed (3 times) and the updates available icon is now present. But the same error message appears when I try it.

Hi nmc,

lets try and reinstall the Windows Update Agent.

Download the setup file http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=91237 to a folder and run it by right clicking on the setup file and select Run As Administrator.

Try the updates again and post another log session and also see if there is anything in the Cbs.log file,

regards

Steve

Hello & Updates Problems
Good morning Steve,

The updates setup file has been tried. As before, I get 'Windows Update Agent has encountered an unrecoverable error'.

I've looked at the cbs.log. An extract is below. The only significant (?) entries relate to roughly when the update problem started. The last few lines have been repeated continuously up to date.

Hi Neil,

next thing to see is if Windows Modules Installer Service is running.

Start -> Run -> Services.msc and then look for Windows Modules Installer and ensure it is running.

Neil,

lets try this.....

from the command line (cmd.exe) type: net stop wuauserv

from the command line type: regsvr32 %windir%\system32\wups2.dll

Download the manual installer from here: http://download.windowsupdate.com/Wi...gent30-x86.exe

from the command line change to the directory that contains the file you just downloaded and type WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe /wuforce

regards
Steve
