Insufficient disk space error
I use a batch file to copy to a network attached drive (mapped as Y but I get an "insufficient disk space" message and no files are copied. I suspect a permission problem with the NAS drive but Vista will not let me change permissions, even as administrator. Any thoughts? The command line is "xcopy c:\internet\charlie\*.* y:\files\internet\charlie\ /d /y/ /s". Thanks...

Hi cjcannaliato,

welcome aboard

I wonder does the NAS have any inbuilt permissions. I remember working with a DELL NAS and it had it's own front end that permissions were set in.

Have you used this NAS before with anything else?

Can you copy the files via Explorer?

Whats the make and model of the NAS?

regards

Steve

Steve,

It is a Buffalo Tech Tera Station. No problem with other CPU's on my network (all running Win 2K). I learned tonight that I can use xcopy if I don't include the /s switch. I also can write and delete files to the NAS as long as I don't use the /s switch. On my laptop which also runs Vista, I have no problem with the /s switch. Any thoughts?

Charlie

Hi Charlie,

this seems to be a common problem allright.

My thoughts are, and you've probably read them, is to use something like Robocopy from the Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools available here... http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Apparently if you type xcopy /? it will tell you something similiar ( cant test, not near any Vista PC's )

Hope this helps,

regards

Steve
