Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 - All you need to know
Hi everyone,

we have been waiting a long time for the arrival of Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Vista. For beginners this means an update file from Microsoft that fixes a lot of problems you currently have with Vista.

Service Pack 1 will be available to the general public closer to the middle of December 2007. It is currently available to certain Beta Testers and also Technet Subscribers.

The Service Pack will be around 450MB in size and users will require around 4.5Gb of free space. This means that before you even think of getting the Service Pack you will need around 6Gb free space to be sure.

So what will Vista SP1 do for you...

Quote:
First, Windows Vista SP1 will include all previously released updates for Windows Vista. It also will include security, reliability, and performance improvements. These improvements target some of the issues Microsoft has identified as the most common causes of operating system crashes and hangs, giving customers a more reliable experience. These updates also improve performance in key scenarios—for example, when copying files or shutting down the computer.
Check out this link for a list of the fixes and improvements available in SP1 - http://technet2.microsoft.com/Window...e56ab1033.mspx

Check back for more information and we'll keep you up to date on Windows Vista SP1

regards

Steve

I Heard.....
Hello. I heard that SP2 for Vista has been recalled. Is that true or is it out there? I had heard that it was recalled due to several people that had downloaded it, SP2 for Vista were having the problem of their PC's re-starting & re-starting & re-starting. Is any of this true? Or is it all well and doing good? Please let me know. I have had Vista now for the last year and just finished doing my second re-formating. The first one only being the second week I had Vista. The last re-formating only three weeks ago. Both time do to other things other than Vista OS itself. Thank U. Gene from Los Angeles, California

I installed SP1 on a HP Pavilion 9500 running Vista Home Premium today and when I finished IE will not open any pages any more (I am working thru FireFox right now to send this). The error is "[Web URL]" is not set up to establish a connection on port "World Wide Web service (HTTP)" with this computer.

Outlook works, FireFox works the internet is working it just seems a setting or a few of them may have been changed by Service Pack 1 - any help in discovering the cause would be ever so helpful.

THank you!

Vista SP1 and IE
Not sure if this helps but I installed the stand alone SP1 and had the same IE trouble ...wouldn't open. I read a post somewhere that the standalone does that but if you install the SP1 via the MS auto update it runs frine. So I uninstalled the standalone SP1 and waited for Vista to auto install SP1 and all is well. Crazy isn't it? AS of right now Vista isruning super and I love it ... with SP1.

Check your firewall settings, particularly if you use a 3rd party firewall. SP1 contains new versions of the Internet Explorer executable, iexplore.exe, and some firewalls are configured to pick up on the change and not allow communication unless they are explicitly given permission. The same thing can occur with the regular cumulative security updates for bothe IE7 and Windows Mail. This is actually a good thing, because it prevents rogue programs from altering these executables without you knowing about it. If you are notified by the firewall that these programs have changed, check for installed updates. If there haven't been any updates that have installed between the time that your system was last able to connect and now then it is possible that you have got malware on your system, and you need to run your anti-malware tools. You could also try System Restore.

IE 7 not working after SP1
Allow me to follow-up a bit more - I was able to uninstall SP1 and IE7 came back to life, the problem also affected my printing as I have setup IP printing to my main printer and it would not work either till I did the uninstall.

As the week worn on I did not pay much attention to the patches and downloads that were getting ready to install and all of a sudden IE stopped again... I was ticked

Checking the dates I found that patch KB947864 IE7 Security Update was the culprit - again I was able to uninstall the patch and regain use of IE.

I disabled the automatic install feature so that I could now determine what would and would not install.

Reading up on the KB947864 patch indicated also that the problem was with my security software Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition 10.2.0.276 - I am running the same software on two other Vista machines one Business Edition and the other Ultimate, both of those systems accepted the KB947864 patch with no problems at all - not sure what is wrong with the HP Laptop running Vista Home Premium.

Symantec was not much help, or at least I could not find anything on their web site - I may just try to reinstall SAV after downloading the patch again - we shall see.

If anyone has more info - please post - thanks everyone

This last Sunday I tried 2 download the new SP1 for Vista, BUT, I coulden't. So I called Dell on Call since I have 5 pending fixes I've paied 4. They tried also. After several hours on the phone with a Dell Tech. I got cut off, the line was dropped, or maybe they just got tired of me and hung up on me. So I called them back and after going through all their sign in crap, they tell me, "Microsoft is aware there is a problem with trying 2 download the Vista Sp1. It's best u try in a day or 2. Thousand's of people r trying to download the Vista Sp1 and there is a problem being able to do so." So can anyone tell me what is going on with the new Vista Sp1? Here r the error codes I have gotten when trying 2 download it the 6-time's I tried 2. 1. Code 4C7.2. Code E0000100. 3. Code 80240020. 4. Code 800736CC. Thank u. GeneTheIndianChief.

here we r in May 26, 2008, and I am still with out SP1 being installed on my pc. Dell Tech's. have tried 2 help install it on my pc. And I have tried a total of 16-times myself, and we have tried EVERYTHING! I've disabled all my start up programs, my virus protection programs, fire walls everything I've been told 2 try to get SP1 installed. I've even set my windows update so it would install it automatic, and that didn't work either. Now Dell is telling me Microsoft had an issue they r working on to try and correct the problem some of us r have that aren't able to install SP1. Have u heard of this? Some of us can't install SP1 for some reason. Then some of us can. I hear there r 2 KB patches that have 2 B downloaded before SP1 will be able to install. Have u heard this? Do u know where I can get them from so I can check 2 see if I need them? Thanbks for any help. GeneTheIndianChief
