Re: Vista Business 32bit Random Shutdown
I agree, random shutdowns are usually hardware problems, especially after a lightning surge. If you have already replaced all components including the CPU, then the next logical choice is to suspect the hard drive. If a new hard drive with a fresh installation of Vista does not cure the problem then it might be possible that the electrical wall receptacle is losing power momentarily. Sometimes lightning can worsen poor electrical connections in the breaker box (or anywhere else). But if the PC failed for the friend and you too, then I would first replace the hard drive or just try a fresh installation of Vista and see if that cures the problem.
I've repaired a lot of computers and other electronics for decades, and I continue to find new problems that I had never seen before. More than once I have seen new parts be as defective as the old parts.
I finally upgraded to Vista Business several months back and it has been very good for me with SP2 and a few tweaks.
