Unable to delete some files

I have several files in "My Documents" that I am unable to delete because "it is open in another format" or "location." These are usually or always files that I have moved from one folder to another for filing purposes. How do I delete the ones I no longer need?

What kind of files are they? Do you simply just want to move them? Because then I would suggest cut and paste, then you don't have two versions of the same file in two locations.

No. I don't want to move them. I have already moved them into the folders of my choice and that is what appears to have caused the problem. Now I can't delete them from the original folder because I'm told the file "is open in another program." There's a way to delete a file using the function key, isn't there?

I know there is a program out there to download that might be able to help. It is called Unlocker, just Google search it and download it. What it does is unlocks any ties or stops any processes the folder or file may still have and allows you to have full control of the file. In your case in order to delete it. Try that. I have used it in the past and it has worked fine.
