Plantronics headset not working with Vista

I continue to have trouble with my Dell Inspiron, Vista and any headset I attach. A set of Plantronics headphones worked perfectly through the 3.5 mm jacks - then suddenly (after a Vista update I think) they just stopped working. The headset works perfectly on other computers with Windows XP. Would someone out there please tell me how to get any headset to work again?!
