Network Login window

I just bought two laptops with Vista Business operating systems. I am trying to join them to our existing network consisting of 2003 Servers and XP Pro work stations. I have gotten the laptops to connect to our wireless access and I can see the computers in our network, but when I try to acess them it brings up a login window. It needs a user name and password. I am assuming that is the user name and password for the machine I am trying to access. When I type user name and password in and hit ok it changes the user name field by putting the laptop computer name followed by a back slash in front of the user name I typed in. This also brings up a logon unsuccessful message. Am I using wrong user name and password or have I got something set wrong in my network access? Any ideas?

Hmm,

when it appears with a laptopname\username, change the laptopname to the domain or workgroup in which that particular computer is.. and it will go through..

That is my answer. I logged in with the network name\user name and I got right in. Guess I need to go to Vista school. Thanks for the reply.

Have you try to login using the client username and password? Unless you're trying to join the domain then you'll have some difficulties for Vista.
