I have had to start using use my new laptop (Dell Inspiron 17) while my previous loan machine was returned to its rightful owner for a while. He has removed all his data, so now I urgently want to transfer my data and some program d/load files to this machine. All the files on the 'other' laptop are in COMPRESSED NTFS format. With my generous disk space on the new machine I don't want to compress my files (although I have had no trouble at all with compressed files, despite ominous warnings !).
Please, can I UNCOMPRESS my files prior to transfer ?
Then, can I use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard or some wizard to move everything across. I have been warned-off this Wizard, however, again by those with shaking heads. Actually, I don't want to treansfer any settings - I have my new machine setup just as I want it. I have an 8 Gig flashdrive, and I suppose I would prefer to use that.
But I do want to move over all the OE6 files, incl addresses.
Another problem may be that some sub-folders within the DOCS folder in the new machine will match some sub-folder names within the MY DOCS folder in the old one. Of course I can bring across MYDOCS as a new, separate, folder into my new machine, and then merge in the two at leisure.
HELP, please !! I need step-by-step advice if poss.
Many thanks
David
