Virtual PC 2007 question...
I currently have a laptop that has a 320gb drive, set up as dual boot between Vista and XP. I use Vista for home, and XP is required at work.

The current drive is pretty much full, so i purchased a new 640gb drive, and want to make a change to the setup. Instead of dual boot, (which works fine except when someone asks me to do something at work that requires a program only installed on Vista, so I have to shut down XP, boot into Vista, run the program, then shut down vista and boot back into XP. Too time consuming.) I want to install Vista, then use the Virtual PC 2007 application to make the XP system I need.

My long term goal is to eventually have a fresh install within the XP virtual machine of the applications I use for work.

My short term goal is to see if there is a way to capture my current XP partition, with everything already installed, off the 320gb drive, and use it for the image for the xp virtual machine on the new 640gb drive. That would get me up and running more quickly, and as I had time, I could slowly re-install all the necessary applications on a separate XP virtual machine.

Is this possible using Microsofts Virtual PC 2007? Or would I have to use something like VMWare's more advanced software?

If any one has any experience in this area, I'm all ears...

Thanks
Steve

Re: Virtual PC 2007 question...
Trying out a possible solution:
Disk2vhd from Sysinternals (microsoft subsidiary?). Currently making a vhd image of my XP partition. Will try it tonite. Sounds promising...
Thanks

Re: Virtual PC 2007 question...
I have installed virtual machine on vista and it works fine as Vista doesn't support most of the software and driver that is why i tried virtual machine and it helps me a lot.
