Openning/downloading Files From Yahoo Mail

Hi, All
I have for the past month tried to open or download files from yahoo using windows vista home premium without any success. Its either the file will open and not be seen or viewable. It is the jumbled up words and signs that I see and cant read.

Secondly, I dont seem to have a task bar which shows print, tools etc on windows vista home premium. Can somebody out there help?

You don't give a lot of info.
What type of file are you trying to open?
If it is a text document, it could be the Encoding of it.

I am trying to open a text document. Please fill me in with ENCODING. How do I deal with it?
