Vista update issue

I started updating Vista via the prompt on the lower task bar, and it appears to be 'stuck' on this: !! 0xc019002 !! 27986 of 99186 (x86_microsoft-windows-tabletpc-softkeyboard....). The letters on the screen are flickering just a bit, as though it is continuing to update, but not reflecting the progress in the text. Any ideas?

p.s. I am not hugely computer literate, as you can probably tell from my post, so very detailed info (in lay terms) would be incredibly helpful.
