Guys,
I have experienced 15 failed security updates that I have tried to install ~10 times over the past month. This is with Vista Home Premium (SP2) on my Toshiba 205D laptop (AMD Turion 58 dual core proc w/4G of RAM, ATI RS690M graphics)
The updates that fail to install are:
kb979332 kb954155 kb968816 kb956744 kb961501 kb967723 kb970710 kb971657 kb973507 kb973540 kb974571 kb975467 kb968389
I have tried many things including stopping Windows Update service and deleting the contents of:
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download
and then re-starting Windows Update service and re-downloading and attempting the install. I have also unregistered and re-registered 'msiexec', and a number of others, but still no joy.
Going one-by-one I get the following errors:
kb979332:
error code 8007006E, which led me here:
error code: 8007006E but didn't solve the issue.
kb954155:
error code: 80070490
Which started me off in another direction... but before spending my entire Saturday figuring out whey Vista won't install its updates, I raised the white flag, registered here, and decided to post to see if somebody smarter than I could see a common thread among the updates that might point to the reason why I running into problems with this set of updates.
It would make my day to not have to step one-by-one through the updates googling each one and then chasing rabbit-trails for the next day or so.
So, what say the gurus? Anybody have any ideas or links that might explain why these 14-15 updates refuse to install?
It could be something simple, but with this many failing, I willing to try anything -- simple, hard or otherwise.
Thanks for any help you can give.
