Update error code 646

I am new to the forum, am about to reach my 75th year, and have had dificulty with the subject error message when installing updates.

I have found that I can solve this problem by going to microsoft.com/downloads, finding the KB update, downloading and run after accepting the microsoft agreement.

Alas, this procedure has not worked for Security Update 'Microsoft 2007 Office System (KB982331)'. No matter what I have tried, this update fails to load returning the error code 646. I have been very careful to keep my system up to date, but this is the one I cannot load.

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
