Windows mail deletes emails automaticly form server

Hallo

A friend of mine as a problem with windows mail. He used it for a long time and doesn't use it anymore sinds his update windows 7.
He forgot to make a back up copy of his emails before the conversion and now all his emails are lost.
I told him to look up the emails on the server but there are only the emails left he recieved after the conversion to windows 7.
He is not that handy with computers and i guess he just used the standard POP3 within windows mail. I don't have windows mail myself. Can someone tell me if the standart value for the POP3 in windows mail is to delete the messages on the server when you get them on you own computer?

This is forum about vista, not windows 7. And i guess the problem is you might have some change in your setting, or your friend, or family, or virus..
