My Internet Browsers work intermittently

Hello everyone, I have a problem with the 2 browsers I 'am running on a Windows Vista Home 64 Bit machine (Google Chrome and IE 8). I have been having problems where sometimes when I click a link or type in a web address
Chrome will hang and will say "Resolving Host" in the lower left corner. Then it pops up a page saying "Oops! This link appears broken." Chrome is an allowed program though my Windows Firewall.
The other browser Internet Explorer has the same problem. They both work intermittently! This is driving me crazy Can someone please help me?
FYI - I have McAfee Security Centre, I tried disabling but it doesn't help.
ONE MORE THING i would like to mention, Once I use Hotspot shield (Proxy) Both browsers work fine.
I would really appreciate any help guys. I am running out of ideas.

The intermittent connection is probably from your service provider rather than the router. You might have a poor connection that only your provider can fix. Also with DSL there are filters that must be placed correctly on the phone line and your provider needs to help with that.
One method that sometimes works is to turn everything off and then turn them on again in sequence. You don't say if you use cable or DSL but with either, power down the modem, the router and the computer. Disconnect the modem from the cable or phone line. Wait a few minutes. Plug in and turn on the modem first. When all the lights are on plug the ethernet wire from the modem to the router and turn it on. Then when the router is on turn on the computer.
