slow startup

I’m using windows vista home premium and have some start-up problems.
When starting the PC up it takes from 4 min to 6 min to boot up. I went into msconfig and unchecked many start up programs. Also the same when into windows defender and turned off all unnecessary start up programmes. Still takes an age for the PC to boot up. I uninstalled all new software to see if it made a difference but, still the same problems. I completed dskchk several times but not any better at start up.
Can anyone help?
