Desperate help wanting: Vista loops during boot after some updates
Dear All,
I am from Italy and I am new to these forums, I found them today because I am DESPERATE: yesterday I made some updates to my Vista Business PC, using Windows Update like always, about security updates and malware removing tool, just few issues, and all went "good" like always.
At the end of the download and installation, it was asked to reboot the PC to end installation because some files were in use.
The PC booted fine, there was the screen saying "configuring updates, step 3 of 3 ..." etc (I am translating, it was in Italian), then all was fine and I worked for all the day.
At the evening, I turned the PC down and I noticed there was for a second again the screen saying something like "configuring updates, step 2 of 3 ...", and then the PC went off, like always.
The PC is a laptop: after I was in train, and I turned it on to make some work. Vista booted and instead of user login THE SCREEN SAYING "configuring updates, step 3 of 3 ..." SHOWED AGAIN, then the PC turned off and booted Vista again, and instead of user login THE SCREEN SAYING etc., forever...
When I was back home, I connected to power and then I tried to solve the problem pressing F4, F8 and trying different options ("Modalità provvisoria", "minimum configuration", etc.), with no success: or it doesn't work or the PC booted in the same way with that option.
I don't have a "restoration point" to reload a previous configuration, because they were so old a technician deleted adn turned off for some reason.
Only option works is "Command prompt": the PC is a DELL, and there is a working copy of Vista on D: disk. Not an image to be restored, but a real version of Vista, like it was loaded by DELL. When I use "Command Prompt", the PC starts from D: and I can use all the commands of Prompt, and I can access all data, of C: disk too.
Do you know how to fix this problem, how to end this boot-reboot loop, from Command Prompt, maybe using the version of Vista on D: disk, or deleting some files from the updates in C disk, without re-installing all? I have a number of software installed , and if I have to start to reinstall all it will be very long, diffcult and I don't know where to find a lot of things or remember what it was installed.
Thank you very much, I can't see time to have HELP!!!!
