Mediacontent leads to app hang

Hi,

For a while now I've been having problems when playing mediacontent om my Vista 32-bit PC.

The problems begin randomly (after 30 minutes or after an hour) while playing music or DVD/videos with a mediaplayer (WMP, Winamp, Alternative, VLC etc.) The mediacontent begins tot stutter and then keeps hanging. Meanwhile explorer and every other task I wish to perform are extremely slow or hangup as well (opening folders/deleting recycle bin). I also noticed that when I open a folder with images during this hangup the preview thumbnails don't work). After a few minutes the problem goes away and everything returns to normal.

I've ran SFC and CHKDSK, deinstalled Kaspersky Internet Suite 2010 which apparantely sometines causes problems, checked for virusses/spyware, defragmented my HD's, updated drivers and now am kinda stuck cause the problems persist.

I did notice in resource monitor that my disk usage is at a 100% active time although I'm not sure what that exactly means. SMART doesn''t show anything wrong.

Any ideas?
