problem with adding favorites

Hello,

I have a problem with adding or viewing my favorites that I am pretty sure is my own doing but I don't know how to fix it. When I want to add a favorite and click on favorites the 'add to favorites' drop down opens but when you click on it nothing happens and the drop-down disappears. I can still see my fav's in the folder but can no longer pull up my fav's list either. Please help before I take a sledgehammer to this laptop!
