speech recognition stopped recognizing!
Hi. I was experimenting with Vista's speech recognition and using it with Flex in Internet Explorer, and was pleased with how well the recognition was working. Well, I tried unplugging my headset and plugging it back in to see how robust the hardware connection was, and then the microphone went dead. When I got it going again, recognition no longer works in the sense that the software is working but it no longer recognizes any words :-(
To "get the microphone going again" I had to switch the default microphone from "Line In" to "Microphone": getting to this choice by Right Click on Realtek HD Audio Manager / Audio Devices / Recording. So maybe this is a hardware problem. But my Realtek microphone driver is up to date (I found a place where it allowed me to check the internet for an update), and it would be odd for hardware to suddenly break.
Also in the mix, I did some voice training; but I did figure out a way to delete the trained voice profile in case that was actually making things worse. Here, I added a new voice profile, which then let me delete the old. I got there with Advanced Options from the Speech Recognition Control Panel, which was a right click on the Speech Recognition widget / Configuration / open control panel.
Any ideas/suggestions are appreciated, I do want to use this tool.
Thanks,
Peter
