Vista shuts down at the start

Hello,

I have a 4-month old hp pavillion dv6 laptop that came with a windows vista home premium service pack 1. Until yesterday I had never had any problems nor complaints. But last night I powered my laptop on, and right at the start when it was loading the programs, it went into BSoD mode, had a 10 second countdown that it was dumping the physical memory and automatically restarted. Once it gets back again, it asks me if i want to run the windows normally or on safe mode. Right now, I'm only able to run the laptop on safe mode.

I worry it's a virus. My norton anti-virus expired last week and I downloaded AVG free from the internet.

Your advice is highly appreciated!

I have a very similar problem. I bought I HP dv6 laptop about 2 months ago, and I am running AVG free. After I installed the windows updates this morning and restarted the computer, I've been getting this blue screen.

I hope we can figure it out.
