Vista BITS service

Vista 32 Ultimate. BITS is in my Services list, Automatic(delayed), but not started. When I attempt to start it I get: "Windows could not start BITS on Local Computer. Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start." Without BITS I cannot run a full computer backup. I have tried many suggestions I found on forums, but nothing helps. Can any Vistahead help me? Thanks!
