keyboard and touchpad not working

I just purchased a new Laptop (Acer Aspire 5515) and this problem has happened three times now, twice when installing a laptop connect card and the other was during an automatic updates session. Basically after the system reboots itself I can no longer type on the keyboard or use the touchpad...it just sits at the logon screen and all the attempts to fix are unsuccessful and I have to end up reloading it back to the way I bought it from the store. Any ideas on what to do would be very helpful.
