Duplicate documents folder?!

I'm having a problem: two documents folders appear, only one of which has anything in it. (Yes, I have looked for hidden files.) The desktop link reverts to this empty one, as does the one in the start menu. Turns out, the properties have it going to users\me\favorites\documents rather than users\me\documents. If I change the properties, it immediately goes back to ...\favorites\documents. What is going on here?! I just want to have a folder to documents, not have new folders created, and not have the properties of my folders change once I've set them! Please help.
