wuaclt.exe has stopped working in vista ultimate

I've just installed Vista Ultimate in a new machine - Asus P5B, with 2GB of memory.
The first few days it went OK. But when I came in to my workplace a couple of days ago, after logging in, I got the following message:

wuauclt.exe has stopped working
You can check the remedy online.
(Then it gives me two alternatives)
A. Check the remedy online and close the program
B. Close the program.

If I click A, it accesses the internet and then recerts to the original screen without doing anything else. If B, I get either nothing, or the infamous blue screen.
Safe mode is OK.
Has anyone experienced the same thing, or got any good ideas? I'd appreciate any help.

That's windows update agent.

Try this:
Run > services.msc (windows key + R for run command)
Stop the "windows update" and "cryptographic" services.
Delete your "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution" directory. (Don't worry, windows will recreate it upon restart).
Restart your PC.

Thanks for the advice. In fact what I did was do a complete re-install of Vista. It went smoothly, and there doesn't seem to be any problem.

I'll certainly try your suggestion if it happens again (and if I remember it!)
