Vista to Vista WET not so easy

Unsuccessfully trying to migrate critical files (including Outlook 2007) from a Vista Desktop to a new Dell Vista laptop using Easy Transfer. Both have MS Office Small Biz 2007. Using the Belkin WET cable to connect, establish connection, start transfer from DT to LT, transfer runs for some time (various file labels seen accumulating), then DT notes Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown. Dell sez all hardware OK., had us (re) install some MS updates (including an experimental version for network transfers - which messed up OE), no success - same failure. Shut down firewalls and security features - no success. Belkin said to install of the accompanying software (even though Vista to Vista shouldn't require it) and that didn't work. Lost phone battery waiting for MS "help" on this...
Both computers purchased this year with Vista, though had Office 2003 originally on the DT.

Any help would be appreciated, as this is affecting my small biz...thanks.
